The Eastman Kodak Company will unveil a brand new marquee and digital signs outside the Kodak Center Theater on Ridge Road in Rochester Thursday evening, September 7.
Eastman Business Park President Dolores Kruchten discussed the new marquee during our Greater Rochester Enterprise Why ROC conversation Thursday during News 8 at Sunrise.
“The Kodak Center has been a part of Rochester for many years, over 60 years” said Kruchten. “What we’re doing now is really make it much more welcoming and opening up the center by dressing up the outside, and really advertising what’s happening inside. So we’ve been working on a work, live, learn and play strategy for all of Eastman Business Park and this will be obviously the play piece. So inside we have an almost 2,000 seat theater. We have a full size gymnasium, ballroom, and we’ve been working with MCC the last year to give classes. So this is really about opening up a marquee to light up the building, and say – you’re welcome! Please come inside!”
A special “light up” ceremony will be held Thursday beginning at six o’clock. “We’re going to have food trucks there,” Kruchten said. “We’re going to have two live bands playing. So it’s free. Anyone can show up. And when it gets dark, we’ll light up the digital sign that we have and the lights on the building, and really show how beautiful it can be. We’ve got, as people can see today, it’s a young George Eastman that’s on the facade of the building. So it will be a really fun event.”
The marquee is a nod to Eastman’s passion for the arts in Rochester. “George Eastman started several years ago really developing Rochester with great performing arts, this will just add to it,” said Kruchten. “So it will give options for people if they want to go to a play, to a musical, to a comedian, it will be a great, fun place for people to go.”
As part of the new marquee, there will be three rows of LED lights that change color and dance. There are also two 9′ by 12′ digital signs facing east and west to announce what’s happening at the theater.
