For our Why ROC conversation, Allison Warren sat down with Mark Peterson, CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise to discuss Governor Cuomo’s regional economic development process.
The regional council process just completed in sixth year, and Peterson says that process has greatly helped the Finger Lakes region.
In that six years, the area has received over $1 billion in state funding, including $500 million last year as part of the upstate revitalization initiative.
A big part of this is workforce development, with area colleges and hospitals receiving money for job training and key facilities.
The awards have been distributed to all nine counties in the Finger Lakes Region, as well as some dollars targeted at the city of Rochester.
