There’s another title fight involving a Rochester boxer coming up.
Willie Monroe Jr. will take on Billy Joe Saunders in London September 16th for the WBO middleweight belt.
Monroe met with the media on Tuesday at the Fight Factory in Rochester. He’s got more than the first on his mind though.
His wife, in his words, is ready to pop any day with the family’s third child.
This is Monroe’s second shot at this title. He lost to Gennedy Golovkin two years ago.
This time around, it’s not about training enough, it’s about training right.
“Fighters, we’re tough guys,” said Monroe. “It’s push yourself, push yourself, push yourself and it’s like some days, pull back a little bit. I’ve just learned more about my body. sometimes you can overtrain. and a lot of people don’t know that over training is worse than under training because if you under train you know, I only got 8 rounds in me so I’m biding my time. but if you over train, in your mind you think, I can do 15 rounds, but your body says no.”
