NASCAR is one of the largest sporting events in New York.
Watkins Glen International is expecting thousands of people to fill the stands but local businesses are expecting a large crowd as well.
“We can welcome them (tourists) with open arms even though we have a very small community,” said Tourism and Marketing Manager Brittany Gibbs. “We have amazing business owners and dedicated hospitality members who are just on the front lines every day working hard just to make this a great experience for everybody.”
Mary Mckay, Tasting Room Leader of Rooster Fish Brewing says NASCAR weekend is probably one of the busiest weekends for business all summer long.
“It’s really shoot from the hip at this point, we’ve been around for a while so we got it pretty much figured out with extra staff,” said Mckay.
However, if you are looking to stay in Watkins Glen for the race, it’s best to book early as hotels take reservations early.
“We take reservations all year when people leave they’ll start making reservations for 2018,” said Angie Franzese co-owner of Villager Motel.
