RIT Rolls In NCAA Opener

RIT put Morrisville State to bed quickly in it’s opening round NCAA matchup on Wednesday, winning 24-3 over the Mustangs. The #1 ranked Tigers now sit at 19-0 before Saturday’s second round showdown with Union.

The Tigers dominance was obvious right from the start. RIT opened the game with six straight goals in less than eight minutes.

There were few moments of joy for the Morrisville State. Former Irondequoit star Andrew Donoghue scored for the Mustangs with 18 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make it a 7-2 deficit.

Instead of going into the break with a little momentum, RIT’s Matt Hossack scored ten seconds later to make it 8-2 Tigers.

RIT then proceeded to score five straight goals to open the second quarter. When halftime rolled around, the outcome of the game was already determined with the Tigers up 14-3.

The second half was glorified practice for the nation’s top team. RIT blanked Morrisville 10-0 over the game’s final 30 minutes.

Ryan Lee led RIT with four goals scored and also added two assists. Kyle Aquin wasn’t far behind with three goals and two assists. John Hill and Allister Warren each recorded hattricks for the Tigers.

RIT will take on fellow Liberty League team #15 Union College in the 2nd round on Saturday, May 9th at Tiger Stadium. Gametime to be determined.
