Strong second half pushes ‘Cuse past Colgate

Frank Howard made his second debut, but it was his backcourt mate who stole the show.

Tyus Battle went scored 16 of his 24 points after intermission helping the Orange to a 77-56 victory over Colgate.  

Battle was 8-for-10 from the field in the game and made all three of his attempts from three-point range.

Oshae Brissett and Elijah Hughes both chipped in with 17 points.  Bourama Sidibe, meanwhile, posted a double-double by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Frank Howard made the start and scored the first basket of the game for Syracuse.  He finished with three points on 1-for-5 shooting.  He also recorded five assists and no turnovers.  Howard has been sidelined for about nine weeks with an undisclosed foot injury.

Colgate kept this game close for awhile by making eight three-pointers in the first half.  The Raiders only trailed 35-32 at the break.  However, Syracuse went on a 26-5 run early in the second half to take control.

With the win, SU improves to 3-2 on the young season.  Colgate drops to 4-2.  Next up for the Orange will be a trip to nationally-ranked Ohio State next Wednesday for the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
