Syracuse Police Detectives said Tuesday that they’re in the final stages of the investigation into the accident that killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez, also involving Coach Jim Boeheim.
Detectives report: “it does not appear driver distraction or impairment was a contributing factor for either driver in either crash.”
Last Wednesday night, Boeheim was driving on I-690 east when his car hit and killed Jimenez.
Detectives are examining the event data recorder from Boeheim’s vehicle.
Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick tells NewsChannel 9 that it shows Boeheim was not speeding.
Jimenez was on the highway, after having been involving in a separate crash that left the car he was in in the middle of the highway.
Once police collect all available evidence, they’ll submit the information to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office for review.
When asked by NewsChannel 9 on Tuesday, Fitzpatrick says he considers the case closed.
