WNY Flash on fire in 5-2 drubbing of Sky Blue FC

Local Sports

With US National team coach Jill Ellis in attendance, the WNY Flash displayed their most dominant performance of the season, winning 5-2 over Sky Blue FC.

The five goals scored matches the most scored in a league game by the Flash since a 5-0 win at Portland in 2014.

Jessica McDonald got the scoring started with a header off a corner kick in the fifth minute.

In the 19th minute, Sky Blue FC failed to clear a free kick out of their 18-yard box and Samantha Mewis made them pay with a header to double the lead.

Less than five minutes later, Lynn Williams redirected a cross in the box to put the Flash up 3-0.

McDonald scored her second of the half during stoppage time when she pounced on a header off the post.

US National player Kelley O’Hara put Sky Blue on the scoreboard in the 54th minute, but Michaela Hahn sent a rocket into the top shelf in the 61st minute giving the Flash their fifth goal of the game.

The WNY Flash are now 3-3-0 this season. Next, they will take on the Boston Breakers on Friday, May 27th at Sahlen’s Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
