The Sabres might be going back to the Winter Classic.

Newsday in New York is reporting the NHL is close to finalizing an agreement to take the Winter Classic to New York City for the first time.

Citi Field, where the Mets play baseball, would host the Sabres and Rangers in the annual New Year’s Day game.

This would the 10th incarnation of the hockey tradition. The Sabres hosted the first game in 2008.

There have been outdoor games in New York City before, but never the Classic.
