Rochester athletes join NFL teams

Robert Foster proved last season that you don’t have been drafted to win a roster spot and make a name in the NFL.

Foster went undrafted 12 months ago and might end up the best receiver with the Buffalo Bills this season.

Two section fivers will walk that same path this year. Fairport’s Marquis Young signed with the Colts last weekend and Kearney grad Jermaine Ponder is joining the Browns.

On Tuesday afternoon, the school held a reception to acknowledge Ponder’s big step.
The Browns called Ponder while he was in the shower Saturday.

He says the whole call was a blur but remembers the coach from the Browns asking if he really did just get out of the shower. Ponder is incredibly excited and now wants to be an example to other kids like him.

“Rochester is everything to me. As an inner-city kid, I just want to use this as an opportunity to inspire the next kid. If you have a dream, regardless of how long I play in the NFL, I’ve reached a dream of mine and if you have a dream, you can definitely achieve it,” said Ponder.
