Putney tosses a gem as Saints upset Titans

Churchville-Chili knocks off 6-seed Thomas

ROCHESTER - Jake Carroll's two-run single with the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd inning gave the Saints an early 4-0 lead.

Junior pitcher, Ethan Putney did the rest.

Thomas cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into the 7th inning when Derek Ogi led off the frame with a single.

The next batter, pinch-hitter, Matt Stuewe tripled to left center to pull the Titans within one and the tying run only 90-feet away.

Putney, who was dominant Monday, got the next batter to pop-up to shortstop. Followed by a weak groundout to third before picking up his eighth strikeout of the night to end the game.

It was the second time this season the Saints beat the Titans by a 4-3 score. Both games, Putney picked up the win on the mound.

Churchville-Chili will face Penfield on Tuesday in the Class AA quarterfinals.
