No one has been a member at Oak Hill Country Club longer than J. William Reeves.
On Wednesday, Reeves joined a club only slightly less exclusive.
Reeves was the 2018 Oak Hill Hill of Fame inductee. The ceremony was held despite a stiff wind on the hill next to the club’s famous 13th green.
In 1949, Reeves graduated from Aquinas Institute. The same year, he joined Oak Hill as a junior member. No other member can match his 69 years with the club.
Reeves served on virtually every committee, culminating with his Presidency 1974-1975. His plaque on the Hill calls Reeves the “heart and soul of Oak Hill”.
Since 1986, Reeves has been Chairman of the Hill of Fame Committee. He is the forty-fourth inductee.
Reeves said he was overwhelmed by the honor. He joins golf legends like Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, Nancy Lopez and Tom Watson on the Hill of Fame.
None of them, however, can join the club Reeves is in. A club of one.
