Midlakes went on an extended 22-4 run to break open a close game and knock out Dansville 68-56 in the Class B state qualifier Tuesday night in Avon.
The Screaming Eagles led by only two late in the second quarter, but held Dansville without a field goal for the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter. Including the end of the first half, the Mustangs did not make a basket for nearly an entire quarter.
Free throw shooting also killed Dansville. They missed ten of their first 15 attempts from the line.
Midlakes had the lead as big as 22 in the second, but Dansville rallied late to get within nine in the final couple minutes. They simply ran out of time.
Hannah LaPlant and Jacquelyn Blechinger each led Dansville with 14 points. Arayana Young had a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.
The Eagles are 21-3. They play next in the state quarterfinals Saturday at Buffalo State College. Their game against the Class B champ from Section VI is scheduled for a 5pm tip.
Dansville suffered their first and only loss this season to close the year at 22-1.
