The labor dispute entangling the National Lacrosse League began having an effect on the season Thursday.
The NLL announced that the first two weekends of the season have been canceled. That means the Rochester Knighthawks’ scheduled home and season opener on December 8th will not happen.
The league extended a 5pm Wednesday deadline to have negotiations completed so the Pro Lacrosse Players Association could submit an agreement proposal. However, the NLL soundly rejected the PLPA proposal in a press release Thursday afternoon and was forced to being canceling games.
Rochester’s first game is now scheduled for December 29th at Blue Cross Arena. That is, IF the league and players can come to an agreement soon enough so teams can report to camp and have an adequate amount of time to prepare.
The release from the NLL on Thursday made no mention of any future negotiations or meeting sessions.
