The Rochester Knighthawks are doing their part to grow the game of lacrosse in Rochester.

Not in a suburb… actually IN Rochester.

The team donated brand, spanking new Under Armour lacrosse equipment at East High Tuesday.

They’ve also provided coaches for a boys JV team currently based at East. The goal is to have a boys and girls varsity program in the city by next school year.

The money was spent on equipment, but the kids at East see an investment in them.

“Our motto has always been, kids get excited by equipment,” said East head lacrosse coach Sean Banks. “They see nice equipment, they see Under Armour sponsored by the Knighthawks, it’s nice and clean. It makes them feel special, makes them feel like we’re serious with really moving along with the program. If you look good, you play good. If you play good, you look good.”

The Knighthawks know the commitment must go beyond some shoulder pads and sticks. They’re happy to make it.

“It makes them feel part of a team too,” Knighthawks forward Dan Lomas said. “They all have matching gear. They are all out there together. It shows there is something solid. They are putting in the work. It’s not just we’re going to leave on them. These kids need solidarity in their life and I think they’re getting that with this kind of stuff.”
