Hilton Cadets won four championships as Section Five had a banner day at the NYS Wrestling Finals Saturday in Albany.
Greg Diakomihalis finished another unbeaten season and won his fourth straight state title with a pin at 113 pounds. The Hilton junior has a chance to eclipse his legendary brother Yianni and win a fifth championship last year.
Gregor McNeil (99 lbs), Ryan Burgos (126 lbs) and Sam Deprez (195 lbs) all joined Diakomihalis in Hilton red and black on top of the podium.
Alex Samson was the only non Hilton wrestler to win a Division I title. The Victor senior was only one of three wrestlers who won a championship seeded outside the top four. Samson was the 5-seed at 132 pounds.
In Division II, Anthony Noto won his third consecutive state title. The Honeoye Falls-Lima junior won by pin at 113 pounds. His only loss this season came against Diakomihalis.
Jace Schafer rounded out Section Five’s seven champions with a win at 99 pounds for Pal-Mac.
Section Five was the top section at both divisions. Hilton was the top Division I team at the individual state finals.
Rochester left no doubt where to find the best wrestlers in New York State.
