Brighton’s Ernie Clement drafted by Cleveland Indians

Brighton High School graduate Ernie Clement was selected by the Cleveland Indians with the 132nd overall pick in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.

Clement is coming off his junior year at the University of Virginia where he played mostly at shortstop, with stints at second base and center field. He batted .315 with a pair of home runs and 34 RBI. Known for his discipline at the plate, Clement struck out only seven times in 254 at bats in 2017.

A 2014 grad from BHS, Clement was a 3-time All-NY shortstop and also excelled at hockey.

As a freshman at UVA in 2015, he started for the Cavaliers on their way to winning the College World Series and was named to the All-College World Series Team.
