Boys sectionals begin with pair of 2OT thrillers

Class AA – Round 1

The Kings nearly pulled off an incredible 7-point comeback in the final 10 seconds of the second overtime, but Kidtrell Blocker’s game-winning 3-point attempt rang off the iron as the buzzer sounded.

Blocker was a beast all evening long for BK, finishing with a game-high 45 points. Earlier in the day, the junior announced on Twitter that he received a scholarship offer from 25th ranked Buffalo.

Kayshawn Ross and Jakhi Lucas were both outstanding for the Griffins, with each player scoring 31 points. Na’Zea Fowlks wasn’t far behind with 24 points for U-Prep.

U-Prep will next take on (1)Hilton in the Class AA quarterfinals at 7:00 on Friday, February 22nd.

(11)Victor 76, (6)Thomas 72 (2OT)

Victor led by 12 at halftime before Thomas roared back, outscoring the Blue Devils 27-14 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Andrew Mason hit a jumper with the game tied and under a minute left to give Thomas a 60-58 lead.

Victor answered as Connor Williams hit the game-tying shot with 11 seconds left to force overtime.

In overtime, Thomas was down 68-65 in the final seconds when Mason hit a step back three to force double overtime.

The Blue Devils only made two field goals in the double overtime and they were both from Williams.

Victor iced the game away at the line to complete the upset.

Williams scored a team-high 21 points to led Victor. Chase Dickens and Matt Caggiano both added 13 points.

Victor will play (3)McQuaid on Friday in the Class AA quarterfinals.

(7)Schroeder 64, (10) Penfield 49

The Warriors led 30-16 at halftime before scoring the first 13 points of the second half and never looking back.

Schroeder will play (2)Gates-Chili Friday in the Class AA quarterfinals.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Class A – Round 1

(11)Greece Athena 42, (6)Churchville-Chili 40

Kiera Osier knocked down a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left to lift Athena into the next round.

The Trojans overcame a 15-4 run from Churchville-Chili that gave them the lead heading into the fourth quarter. Mikayla Shipley led the Saints with 15 points.

Greece Athena will next face (3)Canandaigua in the Class A quarterfinals on Friday, February 22nd.

(5)Wayne 56, (12)Pittsford Sutherland 36

Wayne will play (4)Irondequoit in the Class A quarterfinals.

(4)Irondequoit 61, (13)Spencerport 34

The Eagles scored the first 13 points of the game and never looked back.

Irondequoit led 21-2 after the first quarter. Alahna Paige scored a team-high 18 points for the Eagles. Leah Memmott added 11 points. Irondequoit hit 11 three pointers as a team.

Irondequoit will play (5)Wayne in the Class A quarterfinals.
