The feeling at the Amerks locker room clean out can be summarized in one word: Disappointing.
“We missed the playoffs again which is not where we wanted to be,” said goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Forward Nick Baptiste added, “Obviously disappointing year in terms of where we wanted to end up.”
16 different players got NHL experience and the team showed glimpses of that talent including a five game winning seven out of nine games during a stretch in March and April.
Unfortunately by that point, Rochester’s playoff fate was already decided.
“Playoffs were something that were realistic beginning of the season, that was a goal of ours. And we had a couple of rough stretches that proved you lose some games early September, October, November it comes back to hurt ya,” said Justin Bailey.
“We didn’t do enough winning this season I think it was starting to come at the end but ya know you’re talking seven or eight months too late,” said head coach Dan Lambert
With all the uncertainty in Buffalo can be felt down here in Rochester.
Opportunities with the Sabres will effect who returns to the Amerks including Lambert who says he feels comfortable with his job security but added, “you never know when people are unhappy.”
