The final game for the Rochester Knighthawks under the ownership of Curt Styres finished 14-12 in favor of the New England Black Wolves at Blue Cross Arena.

Styres is moving the team to Halifax starting with the 2019-20 season. Terry and Kim Pegula have been granted an expansion franchise by the NLL that will be called the Rochester Knighthawks that will also begin play next season.

The Knighthawks opened Saturday’s game as though they had already left town, trailing 8-1 at halftime.

The second half was a different story, with the Knighthawks outscoring the Black Wolves 11-6, but the deficit was too big to overcome.

After the game, the established members of the team were still processing the finality of their time in Rochester.

“I’m not prepared to leave Rochester yet. Obviously it’s bittersweet for me,” said captain Cody Jamieson. “I grew up here, I have kids and I’m married now. It’s going to be different. I don’t know when it will hit me, but I’m sure it will at some point.”

Several members of the team and organization are expected to follow to the new iteration of the team as the Halifax Thunderbirds.

“First and foremost, thank you,” said head coach Mike Hasen. “I’ve been here for 20 years, and heard a lot of boos, a lot of people yelling at me at different stages of my career, but when push comes to shove, we always knew they had our back and we really do appreciate it.”
