Brockport smothered Canandaigua with a pop-the-eyes-out-of-your-head 36-5 first half and cruised to a 56-36 win at A.D. Oliver Middle School Wednesday night.
The Braves had a valid excuse. Top scorer Rachel Simmons missed the game with an ankle injury that is not thought to be serious. Simmons’ 16.3 points per game rank her among the top 30 in Section Five.
The Blue Devils did not care. Brockport held the Braves to just one point over the first 12 minutes of the game. Canandaigua did not crack double digits until the final three minutes of the third quarter.
It was feisty second half for Canandaigua, who whittled a 33 point deficit (Brockport had the first bucket of the third quarter) down to 21 early in the fourth and won the second half 31-20.
Brockport snapped a two game losing streak and improved to 9-4. It was only the second loss all year for Canandaigua. The Braves are now 10-2.
