Linehan uses home-course advantage to win RDGA District Championship

Spencerport's Julia Zigrossi wins women's championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — While the temperatures were approaching record-high numbers, no one could put any heat on Tom Linehan as he cruised to a five-shot victory at the RDGA District Championship.

Linehan shot -2 during the final round of the three-day event to win with a total score of -9.

Linehan got to win at his home course of Brook-Lea, which was able to host the event after the Symetra Tour’s Danielle Downey Classic was canceled.

“As a Brook-Lea member, I’m proud of this course and excited that we got to host the Ryan Memorial,” said Linehan. “It was really cool to win this title and to win it here.”

Linehan entered the day with a three-shot lead, which ballooned to as much as six late in the day.

“It was fun— coming in on the back, knowing that I had a little bit of room. I could just relax and enjoy it,” he said.

On the women’s side, 14-year-old Julia Zigrossi won the title by four shots over three different players. Zigrossi won the junior title less than a week ago, the first time someone has completed the sweep in the ten years the RDGA has held the women’s championship. She will be a sophomore at Spencerport next year.
