The Bills are getting an excellent cornerback.
Tre’Davious White is an even better story.
Buffalo made White their first pick of the 2017 Draft Thursday. Sean McDermott and Doug Whaley traded down from 10th overall to 27 before taking White.
His family didn’t have much, but he still passed on a chance to be a first round pick in 2016 and the big contract that came with it.
He wanted to become the first in his family to get a degree.
White wore jersey number 18 at LSU, given annually to a leader and a player of high character (similar to #44 at Syracuse).
He was a four year starter in what’s typically the best college football conference in the land.
In Buffalo, White can’t wait to get started.
“No other place I’d rather be than with a coach that loves his defense and pretty much sells himself out on defense,” White said. “I’m just looking forward to getting in there and working hard and earning everything that comes my way.”
White is willing to play anywhere with the Bills, defense or special teams. He’s returned a punt for a touchdown in each of his last three seasons at LSU.
“You’re going to get a guy that’s going to sell himself out for the team,” White said. “Do everything possible to put the team in a great position to win football games.”
And hopefully, make the Bills a pretty good story of their own.
