Sean McDermott said Monday that Charles Clay will be out multiple weeks after having a procedure on his knee.
Specifically, McDermott said Clay had “knee scope” performed. The Bills tight end was injured after being tackled early in the loss in Cincinnati Sunday.
McDermott could not say if the injury is season ending and has not yet spoken to doctors about the specifics of Clay’s recovery.
Pro Football Talk reported that Clay suffered a sprained MCL and a torn meniscus. If true, it would not be good, but would be much better than the possible doomsday ACL scenarios.
Even with a bye this week, the Bills would likely be without their top two pass catchers for at least another game or two.
McDermott said wideout Jordan Matthews was “week to week” recovering from hand/thumb surgery. He was reportedly expected to miss a month.
Corner E.J. Gaines is in the same “week to week” boat with Matthews. Nickel back Leonard Johnson is “day to day.”
