Students in the Rochester City School District participated in World Read Aloud Day. Guest readers from the Rochester Police and Fire Departments, along with local leaders visited classrooms and read to students at School #33. News 8’s Maureen McGuire also took part.
The global celebration is designed to promote literacy and the awareness that everyone has an inherent right to learn to read.
“The event has grown over the years,” says Larry Ellison, principal of School 33. “This is our fourth year. We have almost 200 people in our school at this point, fanning themselves out, going into our classrooms.”
The district also live streamed the event, and will be posting it to Youtube.
