State Police have arrested a Utica woman, who they say took on the identity of a local reporter to create a GoFundMe web page for Baby Maddox.

In July, 23-year-old Brianna Cummings was arrested and charged with third-degree identity theft, a misdemeanor, for allegedly using Time Warner Cable’s Lacey Leonardi’s name and image to gain credibility in an effort to receive funds— under the guise that the funds would be used for a good cause.

The account received $150 before it was deleted by website administrators.

State Police say none of Leonardi’s personal information, like social security number or address, was used in the course of creating the fake page.

Trooper Jack Keller with the State Police said that Cummings “admitted to making up the account to get people to donate money, with no intention of actually donating the money to the family.”
