Wayne and Ontario Counties hit with flooding

Palmyra, NY (WROC)-  It has been a soggy start to summer in western New York and the creeks and streams have had enough.  Parts of Wayne and Ontario Counties are dealing with flooding following a downpour Tuesday evening.  Intense rain left many areas all around Palmyra flooded including a park that was under inches of water.  The Palmyra fire department spent hours cleaning up flooded roads, pumping out flooded basements and surveying damage around town.  The rain was so intense it left Palmyra High School flooded and the fire department pumping out the basement.  There was no severe damage done.

Creek Road in Palmyra was blocked off because of flooding.  One man stopped to take a photo.

I saw the water overflowing and when I came by here earlier I saw fire trucks over here blocking it off,” said Flim Stover of Palmyra.  “I’ve never seen overflow at all before.  I’ve seen the creek overflow but never the stream that comes out of the drainage ditch that comes out of the hill.”

Crews did not know how long it will take to clean up the damage but the plan is to work until Palmyra is dry again.
