Veronica Lyons receives Golden Apple

Adam Sisco was persistent.

He nominated his math teacher at Hilton High School, Veronica Lyons, for a Golden Apple Award 4 years in row.

This year, he filled out the form from college.

“Because of her, I decided to major in Mathematics with a concentration in Adolescent Education,” Sisco wrote.

Lyons’ principal, Brian Bartalo, found particular pride in this recognition.

“We taught together back in the day, in our middle school years and so this is a great tribute to a wonderful teacher, I’m so thrilled,” Bartalo said.

Lyons, who also coaches track, teared up upon learning of the award saying she teaches for one simple reason: the kids.

She offered one piece of advice for future teaching saying, “Try to respect the kids as much as you hope they respect you.”
