Two people are in custody after a tense standoff. Police were called to a home on Ambrose Street just before 1:30 a.m. for the report of a gunshot fired from an upstairs apartment through the downstairs resident’s ceiling. Two people from the upstairs apartment were taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m. No word yet on their charges or identities.
Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester has filed for bankruptcy. This comes about a month aftert he state opened the Child Victims Act window. Since then 61 plaintiffs have filed 46 lawsuits against the diocese, alleging sex abuse. Filing chapter 11 allows the church to operate while working to pay its debts.
More than 100 animals have been rescued from a home on Ontario Center Road in the town of Ontario. New York State Police rescued chickens, dogs, cats and rabbits from the home that officials say had “terrible living conditions.” They are now in the care of a local shelter.
Local businessman and philanthropist Tom Golisano donated the use of his yacht earlier this week to aid in the relief efforts in the Bahamas. According to a press release, the yacht was used to trasnport 30 tons of supplies. The yacht also helped rescue roughly 50 dogs fromt he destruction cause by Dorian.
