Steuben County man faces rape charges

WAYLAND, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - New York State Police officers arrested 30-year-old Austin Pratt of Wayland on Saturday for rape allegations.

It's believed that Pratt had a sexual encounter with a child under the age of 17 on December 31 within the village of Geneseo.

Police said Pratt is employed by FF Thompson Hospital and is contracted out as an athletic trainer to the Geneseo School District.

In a statement Monday, UR Medicine said Pratt had worked as a trainer for F.F. Thompson’s Rehabilitation Services Center since 2015 but has been fired after his arrest. Officials say they have "no reason to believe Pratt was involved in other instances of improper behavior."

Pratt was charged with rape, criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Court.

He was remanded to the Livingston County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. An Order of Protection was issued to the victim.

The State Police and the Geneseo School District Administration are continuing their investigations. Anybody with information is encouraged to contact State Police Headquarters at (585) 398-4100.
