New York ranks 25th in best states ranking

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — New York finished right in the middle of the pack in a new ranking of states from the U.S. News and World Report.

The ranking used eight categories to judge the states including health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime, and natural environment.

New York finished 25th and fared well in most categories but was ranked 45th in opportunity. That ranking weighs economic opportunities and affordability. New York ranked 47th in affordability and 35th in economic opportunity.

Washington finished as the top state in the report’s ranking. New Hampshire finished second with New York neighbor Vermont at 5.
