The New York DMV is offering some tips for people applying for the Real ID.
The department is highlighting a list of mistakes that customers make, and guidance for avoiding them.
The new license will be required to enter certain Federal buildings, and, beginning Oct. 1, 2020, those who want to fly in the U.S. must have the Real ID, the enhanced license, permit or non-driver ID.
When applying, make sure you provide proof of your middle name or any changes to your name.
Bring only original documents with you, as photo copies will not be accepted as proper identification.
Customers applying for a Real ID must provide two proofs of New York State residency. Federal requirements do not allow the DMV to issue Real IDs to customers under any name other than their full legal name.
