A hashtag on social media is putting good samaritans in the spotlight.

The City of Syracuse has started asking people to use “#SnowHero” on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to highlight neighbors helping neighbors and other good deeds during the snowstorm.

One hero highlighted by neighbors was 68-year-old Thomas Eiben.

He uses his snow blower to clear as much space in his neighborhood as he can.

“I have been doing this for years. I fire up the machine and do as much as I can until the machine comes out of gas or I run out of gas,” Eiben said. “I keep going until one of us quits.”

The City of Syracuse is seeing more “Snow Heroes” pop up with each post on social media.

“We have had a lot of people commenting and sending pictures of their own,” City of Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said. “Apparently we have a lot of snow heroes in the City of Syracuse and that is a good thing.”
