Search continues for suspect in double fatal shooting in Sodus

The search continued Monday night as deputies looked for the man responsible for a double fatal shooting in Sodus.

Deputies were called to the area of Carlton Street in Sodus just after 2 p.m. for the attack. According to deputies, two people were shot and killed outside a home.

Investigators say they don’t have a solid description of the suspect and can’t really be sure of the motive at this time. We’re told the suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a green hat and was last seen headed west from the crime scene.

Deputies have not yet identified the victims, as investigators worked to notify family members, but say the victims had some type of relationship to each other. The suspect’s link to the victims is not known.

The shooting prompted a massive search, including deputies, a helicopter and drones, across the village and surrounding areas, particularly the East Williamson area. At one point, deputies, acting on a tip, combed a trailer park off Route 104.

Deputies have a shelter-in-place advisory, urging residents to stay inside as necessary.

“Even though we do raise that alert, please be cognizant,” said Chief Deputy Steve Sklenar.

Sklenar promises to keep the search up until the suspect is found.

Again, deputies are looking for a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a green hat and Chief Deputy Sklenar asks residents to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior. Anyone who sees anything strange is asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at 315-946-9711.
