Schumer responds to Trump’s comments: ‘People love upstate NY’

After comments by President Trump this week, where the president encouraged people looking for jobs in upstate New York to head to another state, Senator Schumer is responding.

In an interview Wednesday, the president said, in reference to upstate residents, “If New York isn’t going to treat them better, I would recommend they go to another state where they can get a great job.”

The president added, “I love those people… Those people are my voters. They’ve been treated very badly.”

The comments were similar to remarks the president made in 2017 in an interview with the Wall Street Journal where he also urged upstate New York residents to leave.

Speaking Friday, Schumer pushed back against the presidents remarks.

“I’d say respectfully to President Trump, people love upstate New York, they want to stay here,” Schumer said. “Help us keep people here.”

Schumer urged the president to restore SALT tax deductions, something Schumer says the president is considering.
