The race for the 27th Congressional District has not yet been finalized as absentee ballots are still being counted, but Democratic candidate Nate McMurray is headed to Washington, D.C.

McMurray confirmed to WIVB that he was invited to participate in congressional orientation and will head to the nation’s capital Tuesday.

The race between McMurray and incumbent Congressman Chris Collins is separated by fewer than 3,000 votes.

Over 15,000 absentee ballots still need to be counted.

Counting begins Nov. 20.
