It appears Rep. Chris Collins, despite an arrest, will win in the race for the 27th Congressional District.
Months ago, Collins was the favorite to win another term for the seat. However, the race was thrown for a tail spin when Collins was arrested in August on charges of insider trading.
Prosecutors say Collins illegally tipped off his son and friends about bad test results for a drug being created by a pharmaceutical company where Collins served on the Board of Directors.
Because of that, prosecutors say Collins’ son and others were able to save thousands of dollars, selling stock before the trial results were released to the public.
Collins initially said he would end his re-election campaign, while Republican leaders developed a plan to replace him on the ballot. Ultimately, Collins reversed course and stayed on the ballot.
