Gov. Cuomo to debate challenger Marc Molinaro

Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Marc Molinaro have finally set a time for a debate.

After a ton of back and forth between Gov. Cuomo and Molinaro, a debate was finally scheduled on Monday for Tuesday. It will air on News 8 beginning at 7 p.m.

Governor Cuomo has turned down multiple requests for a debate the past few weeks, but finally suggested on Sunday night that he would debate Molinaro on Tuesday. Molinaro accepted his offer Monday morning.

“My job tomorrow is to do simply what underdogs do. Speak on behalf of those people that don’t often get to sit in that room,” Molinaro said.

So no matter what the temperature is no matter how high the chair is, I’m given the opportunity to stand in a place that no kid that grew up on food stamps gets to experience

“After days of ducking the debate, we’re glad Marc Molinaro has finally agreed. See you tomorrow,” Dani Lever, Cuomo Campaign Spokeswoman, said.

This last minute debate leaves out the three third party candidates like independent Stephanie Miner, Howie Hawkins from the Green Party, and Libertarian Larry Sharpe.

“Molinaro and Cuomo don’t want competition from someone outside the two party system. What do you got to do to get into the narrative of the media here?” Hawkins said.

Hawkins has been asking for a debate since the day he announced he was running and is not alone calling for more attention to be paid to upstate voters.

Miner sent this statement in response, ” A single debate without all candidates hurts democracy. A single debate in New York City ignores the interests of Upstate voters.”

Sharpe also responded to news of the debate saying, “These dinosaurs have failed to realize that the comet is already on its way and, when they see the results on November 6th, they will be left with nothing but embarrassment and tarnished reputations.”

Molinaro is also asking for two more televised debates before election day, one in Buffalo and one in the Southern Tier.
