Marjorie Byrnes has won the race for the 133rd Assembly District.

The race for the seat has been anything but ordinary.

In the Republican primary, Marjorie Byrnes defeated the incumbent, Joe Errigo, in a surprise. Errigo was chosen by party leaders to fill the position after the death of Assemblyman Bill Nojay in 2016 and had sought re-election. Errigo returned to the race running as an independent.

Shortly after re-entering the race for the 133rd Assembly District, Errigo arrested for allegedly accepting money to introduce legislation meant to slow a Rochester area business development. Errigo could face up to twenty years in federal prison for these allegations.

Democrat Barbara Baer finished second in the race with 40 percent of the vote and Errigo picked up just 2.5 percent of the vote.

The 133rd District represents Livingston, Steuben, and Monroe counties.
