Andrew Cuomo wins third term as NY Governor

Andrew Cuomo has won a third term as Governor of New York, defeating his four challengers in this race, the Associated Press reports.

Despite the easy win, the governor faced strong competition starting with a tough primary challenge from actress and activist Cynthia Nixon followed by a contentious race against Republican candidate Marc Molinaro, who launched a website called “Cuomo Leaks” where he sought dirt on the governor.

The pair later faced off in a tense debate.

Cuomo also faced Libertarian Larry Sharpe, Independent Stephanie Miner and Green Party nominee Howie Hawkins.

With this race in the bag, many have speculated that the governor’s next campaign will be for president in 2020. However, during his debate with Cynthia Nixon, Cuomo ruled out a presidential bid, saying unless “God strikes me dead” he will serve his four year term.
