Prosecutors: Man accused of throwing child over balcony at Mall of America planned to kill someone

National

Prosecutors say the man accused of throwing a five-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at the mall of America on Friday had formed a plan to kill someone at the mall the day before.

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, is charged with attempted premeditated murder. His bail has been set at $2 million. Police say Aranda has previously been arrested following other incidents at the mall.

The child’s mother said they were standing outside a restaurant when Aranda grabbed the boy and threw him over the balcony. The child fell 40 feet to the first floor below.

The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition.
