The General Motors company is calling for a nationwide effort to put mre electric cars on the road to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In the proposed program, automakers would have to sell a certain percentage of zero emission vehicles, or pay credits to companies that do.
GM hopes the plan will create jobs and reduce carbon emissions by around 375 million tons over 10 years.
