An Oklahoma Junior High student was taken into custody for missing too much school.

The teens mother claims her 14-year-old son was taken to Muskogee’s Child Intervention Center this week and says her son told her he’d been handcuffed in front of his classmates at Alice Robertson Junior High.

The school told her, her son was taken into custody for a truancy violation, receiving four or more absences in a four week period. A district spokesperson said the 14 year old was handcuffed for his safety while he was transported to the center in a patrol car.

The Muskogee school district says they plan on working to improve communication with parents to avoid situations like this in the future.
