Man Found Murdered inside Car

Rochester, NY (WROC)-  One person is dead after a fatal shooting on Rochester’s south side. This marks the city’s 12th homicide of the year.

It happened on Post Avenue near Sawyer Street just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A lot of neighbors were outside enjoying the nice weather when a car crashed into a tree. A concerned neighbor call 911 after hearing shots fired.

When police arrived, they Ranard Small, 22, of Rochester shot to death inside a car. Police say there’s evidence in the road which makes them believe Small was shot while he was driving and lost control of his vehicle.

It’s not just the neighbors who say they are shocked by the shooting. Police say this neighborhood is typically not a violent one.

“My baby was here on her bike and then I was holding my grandbaby right here. It’s just scary. It’s just so much going on,” said Terry Binion.

“We don’t usually have stuff like that happen over here. It’s a nice neighborhood. Sure would hate to see it change,” said Jim Carter.

“‘This is definitely one of our quieter areas, so for something like this to happen is alarming to us as a police department,” said Captain Tony McMullen of the Rochester Police Department.

Police believe this was not a random act and no one is in danger. Right now, no one has been arrested.
