RAY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — A 61-year-old man has died after being stricken while hiking with his family on Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks.
State police say Dennis Stowell of Savannah in western New York developed symptoms of a heart attack while hiking Tuesday morning. Forest rangers notified state police shortly after 11:30 a.m. and a helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
Other hikers administered CPR until medical personnel arrived and took over. Police say Stowell died shortly before 1 p.m. and his body was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
