Curt Smith is a political analyst, and one of many that said for months Donald Trump didn’t have a chance. So many analysts wrote off the business mogul as a ‘buffoon’ and said there was no chance he could become the GOP nominee.
Now Smith says, they may have all been wrong.
When Smith sat down with Allison Warren one day after the Republican Nevada caucuses, he said Trump’s big win in the state signals that voters are tired of the Republican establishment. He says that no matter what you think about Trump’s politics, he has appealed to GOP voters as their chance to strike back.
But Smith also cautions GOP supporters. National polls show that in a general election Trump would not win. He says their best option, when it comes to electability, is Marco Rubio.
However, Rubio has failed to rally the Republican party together and gain the needed support. Smith says the big donors that gave to Jeb Bush now need to get behind the Florida Senator or he won’t stand a chance.
Smith notes that it will come down to what voters decide is important to them. Right now, hes says the ‘Trump trend’ is all about anger and distrust when it comes to politicians.
