Thousands of New Yorkers may be entitled to unclaimed funds issued by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
The insurance company says more than $2.1 million in checks have not been cashed.
These checks were issued to members and providers in 2014, but were never cashed. If the funds aren’t claimed by the end of August, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is required to turn the money over to New York state.
Most of the checks that have yet to be cashed were allocated to Excellus BlueCross BlueShield members and providers, who may have forgotten to cash the checks, moved and left no forwarding address, or died.
Checks will be mailed to claimants on or before August 31.
