Current and former Xerox employees are donating their time to help feed hundreds of local people in need this holiday season.
450 volunteers worked for more than 14 hours straight, packing and delivering more than 45,000 pounds of food for Operation Food Basket.
Xerox and its partners have raised $53,000 dollars this year for the event, and all of that money is used for food because the supplies needed are donated to the cause.
“All of this is donations from employees, former employees, friends of employees,” said Bernadette Durman who works with Operation Food Basket. “Many of these people have already left Xerox, but they come back to do this. Work groups come together to do this, so it’s people who are donating their time, taking vacation to do it.”
More than 1,800 local people will benefit from this year’s event, which began 37 years ago. Around 2,000 homeless people will also receive hot meals during 2018 thanks to the efforts of these volunteers.
