The School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS)  announced World of Inquiry School No. 58 Principal Sheelarani Webster as the 2017 New York State K-12 Building Principal of the Year.

This award is given annually to a SAANYS member who demonstrates leadership in establishing the pace, character and mission of the building, with creativity and resourcefulness in providing comprehensive programs and services for all levels and grades. The award was created to recognize the unique characteristics of a K-12 building and the related demands, expectations and challenges of a Principal in this multi-level environment.

“This award is truly a reflection of the collective efforts between our dedicated teachers, staff, students, families, District leaders and community partners here at School 58, where all parties work together in the best interest of our students,” Ms. Webster said. “I am honored to represent my school community, the District and the City of Rochester, and I am humbled to receive this recognition. I’d also like to thank my family for their support and encouragement throughout my professional journey.”

Ms. Webster was first introduced to the Rochester City School District as a parent at James P.B. Duffy School No. 12 more than 25 years ago. Inspired by her children’s teachers and administrators, she decided to pursue a career in education; she even completed her student teaching at Dr. Louis A. Cerulli School No. 34 and World of Inquiry School No. 58, where she is Principal today. In 1992, she was hired as an elementary teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School No. 9, and eventually returned to School No. 58, where she served as a teacher, instructional coach, Assistant Principal, and then Principal in 2010, when the school began its grow-out to a K-12 building.

Ms. Webster will be recognized at an awards reception in May.
