The frame of a new outdoor pavilion and classroom for kids was raised Wednesday on South Avenue.
The Rochester ChildFirst Network is building the pavilion as part of grant from IDEX Health and Science. Representatives say the outdoor classroom is the culmination of years of planning, providing new opportunities for outdoor learning.
“For us, it’s going to be an outdoor play area,” explained Marsha Dumka, interim executive director. “A place for picnics for families. It’s going to be a place where we can have special events, but again it’s our play area to invite kids to be out in nature more often and to be experiencing all that nature has to offer.”
The new pavilion will supplement four acres of playground space.
